Symphonic Selections: Flight to Neverland

Symphonic Selections

Happy holidays to all my blogger friends and readers! It’s Christmas, and I’m finally feeling the holiday spirit. It’s taken me so long to feel the holiday festivity, but I finally found it when I went to a John Williams’ concert at the Seoul Arts Centre on Friday, December 23rd! In November, I discovered that Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra was going to perform a whole slew of Williams’ film music. I saw that the tickets’ prices were reasonable (70,000 won for the best ones!), so I bought two in the hopes of finding someone to go with me. I did find a friend who was interested, and we went together to this magical concert!

Symphonic Selections: Asian Dream Song

Symphonic Selections

This past weekend, Hanyu Yuzuru won the NHK Trophy for men figure skating. For his free skate programme, he skated to this arrangement called “Hope & Legacy” by Joe Hisaishi. The arrangement is comprised of two songs by Hisaishi — “View of Silence” and “Asian Dream Song”. I became quite enamoured by the latter. It’s one of those pieces that I fell in love with at first sound. I can’t stop listening to this gorgeous piece, so it made sense to feature this for this month’s Symphonic Selections.

Symphonic Selections: Double Cello Concerto in G Minor ~ 1st Mvt

Symphonic Selections

Although I love autumn and am thankful for the cooler weather, there is one reason why I don’t like October. In 2013, my beloved high school band teacher passed away a day before her birthday, so I’m always reminded of her passing and of her birthday. Around the anniversary of her passing, I thought of her a lot. I remembered our band classes and the times I’d volunteered and subbed for her. Inevitably, I began to think of music associated with those memories, and I had one particular song stuck in my head the past couple of weeks. I decided to feature this song for this month’s Symphonic Selections.

Symphonic Selections: Final Fantasy VII ~ Ahead on Our Way

Symphonic Selections

I’m here with a new Symphonic Selections post. I almost went for another sad song this month, but I opted to choose a song that would help me relax. Several days ago, I found myself humming a song from Final Fantasy VII. It just popped in my head, and it’d been stuck ever since. I’m just glad it’s a song I enjoy and don’t mind hearing it over and over again. I can definitely listen to this and relax after a long day of work and such. Huzzah for relaxing video game tunes :D

Symphonic Selections: Gassenhauer

Symphonic Selections

The past few weeks have been crazy for me. I’ve encountered a ton of stress and negativity offline. From my job change to encountering new environment and procedures, it’s been a really difficult period. I almost chose a gloomy Beethoven piece, but I realised I wanted something more upbeat and uplifting. It didn’t take me that long to pick out a positive piece for this month’s Symphonic Selections post. I hope you’ll enjoy this piece! I know I’m already feeling a lot happier!
