Timeless Thoughts: Text-Based Role-Play

Timeless Thoughts

It’s time for another round of Timeless Thoughts, a monthly blog link-up hosted by Georgie and me. This month is being hosted by Georgie, so head over to her blog and join up by submitting your post to the widget at the end of Georgie’s entry! This link-up is opened for two weeks, and your entry can be about anything you find unforgettable from your past or present! It can be an object, an event, a person — anything goes — and you can have more than one thing you miss. For this month, here’s what I’ve been missing lately!

Second Life Identity

Thanks to Vickie, I started playing Second Life. The best way to describe this is that it’s The Sims meet a hypersexualised MMO with the most frustrating user interface known to man. I’ve encountered some annoying issues playing this. One of the major issues I’m having is connection problems. My connection tends to die on me every couple of week, so I have to always reset it for it to work . . . but ever since I started Second Life 24 hours ago, I had to reset about 4 times now X_X; It also lags on my connection, which is odd since I’m in Korea and our connection is fast and reliable.

However, I did encounter an amusing thing. I started off as an airship and when I tried to customise the avatar into human, the programme was only showing me his top-half. His entire lower-body was not appearing, so my friend and I puzzled over this strange and freaky phenomenon. I finally got his lower-half to appear after my friend discovered that I had to re-login the programme. ~_~;

Despite all the strange issues, I still find it quite fun to try and customise my guy.

This bloke, by the way, is Takimoto Chikao aka Chi-Chan aka TC. I hope you guys can see why I went the “TC” route XD; I am in love with him now!

Portie Sound Problem Fixed

Regarding the sound problem from this post . . . I think it’s fixed, and I hope it stays fixed! Long story short, this is what happened in the past couple of weeks.

  1. Thought the sound problem started with the WiBro software, so I uninstalled the software. The problem still persisted, so I reinstalled the software back on Portie.
  2. It hit me today that I could do a system restore from a day in January and then reinstall the WiBro software. So I did that, and the sound worked and the WiBro worked!
  3. But another problem came alive . . . let’s just say I forgot I had updated my anti-virus software a week or so ago, and the system restore was from January . . . yeah, I ran into some weird problems.
  4. Luckily, Cat suggested something, and while I don’t think I did it correctly, it solved the problem nonetheless.

Now. The sound works, the WiBro works, and my anti-virus programme works. Dearest Portie . . . PLEASE STAY WORKING.

Anyway, aside from my adventure of computer problems (I’ve been having some issues with my desktop, too. WTF? Is this a month where technology just hates me), I’ve been writing, writing, and writing. It’s funny. When I write other stuff, I don’t feel like blogging as much. Then again, I’ve been writing over 70k of fanfiction and role-play in the last two months . . . so yeah, I think I have a good excuse as to why I haven’t been actively blogging and reading blogs.

Such is life.

My vacation has come to an end. That makes me incredibly sad. I think I could almost go for two more weeks of what I’ve been doing since I’ve turned 25! The first half of my vacation was on the social side. The latter part turned me into a writer of some sort.

Along with a “fanpoem” I completed by the January 18, I wrote a 7200ish word fic in two days, and I started and wrote 2600ish words to a new fic on Sunday. In between all that, I’ve been beta-reading for other people, RPing, reading books, and figuring out how to put a PC game onto my netbook without the use of an optical drive, which I’ve figured out.

My mum said to me on my last day of vacation, “Why don’t you go on train ride and go on a trip!” Jeez, and this is from a mother who won’t let me stay out past 10pm without freaking out?

My dad said, “You had a waste of a vacation”. I asked what he meant by that. He said, “You just sat in that computer chair all week.” He does have a point about my butt’s placement on a particular furniture, but how is it a waste of a vacation doing something I enjoy?

And my parents think I’m the pessimistic, cynical one? Oh, wait, I still am.

Animes and Mangas Organisation Day

Aside from RPing a story that’s taking place in the Harry Potter world with a good friend, today was spent quite . . . productively.

You see, I have compiled a list of animes I’ve watched at Anime News Network and a list of mangas I’ve read at Manga Updates. Late last year, I decided to start keeping track of these two hobbies of mine to My Anime List along with ANN and MU as a back-up, in case one of these sites ever die.

Well, I spent about three days here and there to do that. I finally finished. *dies from the effort*

* Anime List
* Manga List

The sad thing? They aren’t fully complete. I have a tonne of animes that I’ve seen as a kid that I have no clue what are called (I watched them on Korean channels, where the title, character names, and etcetera were all changed to the Korean equivalence in many cases), nor am I going to figure out how many episodes of I’ve seen of them. As for the manga list, I don’t keep track of all the single oneshots I read (a single chapter — not a whole volume) or doujinshi, so that’s sadly incomplete as well.

But dude . . . just looking at these incomplete lists make me go wow. Imagine how huge it would be if I did make it fully complete.

ETA: And I also did the same by transferring what I had on Game FAQs to Backloggery for video games.
