TC’s Treasures: January 2017

TC's Treasures (Original image from

This is the first TC’s Treasures post of 2017! It’s already the second week of the new year, and I’ve been keeping myself busy with my hobbies. I also fell ill last week to the point I had to call out sick for two and a half days. I came down with a super bad cold, and it made me super woozy. Amidst my sickness, I kept up with my hobbies, and this post will be covering what I’ve been enjoying in terms of animes and video games.

Yuri!!! on Ice

Yuri!!! on Ice

I’m a big figure skating fan (Hanyu Yuzuru, all the way!), but I held off on watching this anime when it started in October. A part of me was sceptical because I didn’t think the anime would portray figure skating accurately. However, I kept hearing great things about the anime, and a couple of my friends even recommended it. I gave the anime a try in mid-November, and I was immediately hooked. The characters, the plot, the figure skating routines choreographed by a real skater . . . everything about this anime appealed to me, and it reminded me why I love animes. This was just the right thing to boost my mood towards the end of 2016, and I do believe the popular sentiment that this show saved 2016. Phichit, by the way, is way too adorable. I want his “Hamster on Ice” show to become reality!

Yuri on Ice Theme

asdfjkl;asdfjkl; This song is Yuri’s piece to his free skate, and I absolutely adore this piece to the point that I was playing the hour-long version at work. This is a gorgeous instrumental that’s supposed to showcase Yuri’s journey as a figure skater. I want to try and plink this song out on the piano!

History Maker

This opening song to Yuri!!! on Ice is a gigantic earworm that wouldn’t leave me be. I found myself constantly humming this song. Even now, while typing this post, the song’s playing in my head, and I fully admit to having a goofy smile on my face.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

I mentioned in my previous post that I want to play more video games this year, and I am! I re-charged my PS Vita to play Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc. This game is like a meeting of Persona 3/4, The Hunger Games, and Gyakuten Saiban aka Phoenix Wright with the darkness of Zero Escape games. Fifteen students are trapped in a school, and in order to leave the place, they have to kill somebody secretly and get away with it in a classroom trial. This game’s a major nightmare fuel, and some of the plot points left me quite horrified because of its sheer evilness, but I couldn’t put the game down. I have beaten it, and now I’m debating on playing its sequel or holding off on it for something else.

Have you seen Yuri!!! on Ice? Have you played Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc? What anime or games are you loving lately?

  1. I’ve heard a lot of mentions about Yuri on Ice from Youtube vloggers, and I’m glad you enjoyed it. I don’t think I’ve seen any of these but I’ve also haven’t watched anime in a while. Instead, I’ve been reading manga since they’ve been releasing it faster (Noragami).

I’ve been playing Pokemon Sun, but I feel so old not knowing any of the new Pokemon. X_X

  2. I can’t recall the last time I watched a new anime series or played a new video game 😝 The only series I’m following now is Digimon Tri. because it’s a continuation of the first/second season which are both dear to my heart, haha. The last video game I played was Diablo 3, which was a lot of fun but also turned into a total gaming zombie!

  3. Even though you were sick, at least you got to do other things that make up for it. Hope you’re feeling better now :).

I’ve been seeing sports anime being a big thing these days! Haha, I can almost imagine some dramatic scenes that typical animes have. I love the instrumentalness of Yuri On Ice’s theme! I know I wouldn’t be able to play this on the piano for sure XD.

Good luck with the game! You have a lot more to complete after this one ;). I haven’t played this game or watched Yuri!!! on Ice- but I’ve been seeing lots of tweets about it XD

  4. SO MUCH YOI. I LOVE IT. I’m so glad you gave it a chance! I was so excited for this anime for months, so seeing people love it and praise it warms my heart a thousand times over. Especially because the characters, the story, and especially the creators deserve the amount of attention this anime has gotten since it aired (but particularly after ep 7 😉).

The music is gorgeous, too. I love the opener and ending themes, and I think Yuuri’s theme is just stunning. I actually want to learn it on piano! I definitely approve of this list, ha.

  5. everyone is talking about yuri on ice! (that or mystic messenger) i don’t watch yuri on ice or play mystic messenger though. i can never understand otome / dating sim games tbh. i don’t remember when was the last time i watched anime…i think it was 2-3 years ago, unless you count movies like studio ghibli and makoto shinkai’s as anime then well, i recently watched studio ghibli’s when marnie was there and makoto shinkai’s your name (which is what everyone seems to be talking about these days). i personally don’t consider them as “anime” though, i consider them as “animated films” instead since i think they’re of different league compared to your everyday anime series, if that makes sense. i guess i just grew tired of anime series, their fandom and the ridiculous, unnecessary fanservice (and all the fujoshi fans screaming BL pairings and stuff when in truth, the anime is about something more serious than just the whole pairing bullshit or that the character is actually straight and not gay….not that i have anything against gay characters)

i watched danganronpa before and played the game on psp but didn’t finished it. it’s been years ever since i played a game from japanese developers tbh. i mainly venture to western ones now. i grew out of japanese games (they’re mostly for consoles anyway while i’m always on pc) i do know i like Junko and Kirigiri from the first danganronpa :)

as for video games i’ve been playing lately, i’ve been replaying a few games: ori and the blind forest, a beautiful platform game, dragon age inquisition and mass effect 2 to name a few.

  6. Ahh, I love Yuri on Ice! It was much better than I was expecting. I like watching sports Anime, so I thought it’d be about the same as the others, but it’s set the bar so high! I really like Yuri’s free skate song and History Maker too. Have you heard AmaLee’s cover of it? It’s very pretty!

I’ve been wanting to play Dangaronpa, though I’m not sure if I’d play the first one. I ended up watching the Anime to prepare for some photoshoots, so I know the answers and ending already, haha. Seems like my type of game though!

  7. I started watching Yuri on Ice because of how much you loved it, haha. It’s actually the first anime I’ve watched in a while. And the only one I felt compelled to finish! I think the last time I finished an anime was years ago. It reminded me why I liked watching anime in the first place. I also am partial to sports anime. I like their hard work ethic!

I want to play more games too! I don’t own a PS but I recently acquired a 3DS and have been playing different games. I also own one PC game, which is Ori and the Blind Forest. I actually bought a controller for the sole purpose of playing this game, HAHA. I haven’t played it in a while though but the graphics are amazing and I really like the soundtrack.

  8. Love love love yuri on ice! I was like ‘what do i do’ when it was finished airing. orz lol I haven’t seen an anime that made me so excited for the episodes in a long time. Making me feel good too with how pleasant the show was. XD
