Blogger Dossiers: Becky

Blogger Dossiers

Happy belated Thanksgiving to all my US friends! This month’s Blogger Dossiers is posted on Black Friday, so while everyone’s off shopping for various deal, I’m here to introduce Becky! I’ve known Becky for a while now. She recently made a comeback on her blog, so it’s been real good connecting with her again. Becky has many talents and interests, and this post shows it. Enjoy getting to know her!

Becky of Lunsh

Becky is a “jack of all trades and master of none” living in Boston, Massachusetts. As her day job, she works as a designer/product manager/developer for all things web. On the side, she lives and breathes art and plays a lot of video games, and has even more hobbies like woodworking, photography, writing and reading, and tea. She currently blogs at Lunsh.net and posts lots of art and sketches on Instagram.

Remarkable Recollection

I have lived a charmed and lucky life — and I’m grateful for every moment of it. My favourite memories are both small and large — when my boyfriend and I proposed to each other last summer is the biggest and best, and when I spontaneously got an apartment in Spain for a month. But the small memories are just as valuable for me — my mom and I playing video games together, my brother wolfing down a whole cheesecake in one bite, my dad sending me the stories he writes, playing board games with friends. It’s all the little memories that make me smile on a day to day basis.

Where would you go with a Flat Stanley and where would you take a photo of it?
I confess I had to ask TC what this meant! For those who don’t know, a Flat Stanley is a little character who you take places and pose in interesting locales for photos! Anyway, I’m wild on travelling — I love integrating in the local community and just exploring all the local haunts and areas, rather than going to touristy places. I would love to visit Botswana and take a photo in front of the beautiful scrubby mountains.

What is your all-time favourite video game?
This is so hard! I have SO MANY video games I love. My all-time favourite these days is probably Fallout: New Vegas for a few reasons. I love the Fallout series (though maybe not the most recent one) — I love the lore and setting so much. New Vegas hits all the notes of lonely, weird, whimsical, snarky, and deep. It’s a game I can always pick up if I’m bored and keep playing. It’s very comforting and relaxing, and also exciting and interesting. It’s just really fun and hits all the notes I want in a game.

Who are some artists that have influenced you and your own work?
Tons! Some fine artists like Mark Rothko, Beatrix Potter, Caravaggio, Hieronymus Bosch, and Kay Sage (all of whom are extremely different!). Also a bunch of people making art right now: Stephen Mackey, Lucas Lasnier aka Parbo, Audra Auclaire, Mais2, Jake Parker, Coey Kuhn, Noah Bradley, Lucas Pope (who is a programmer AND artist — he made Papers, Please), and lots, lots more. I’m inspired by all kinds of people, most of whom do things way outside the box.

What are some of your favourite apps?
I don’t use many apps on my phone — I don’t even have email on my phone! That said, I have Pokemon Go (of course) and Neko Atsume, and those are the only phone games I play. On my computer I have mostly games (loooooots of games), a comic reader, art stuff, design stuff, and programming stuff. I’m a heavy computer user, but not a heavy phone user. And I don’t own a tablet. :)

What is something you hope to tackle or overcome?
Confidence! I have some big goals for next year and they’re going to require me to push even more out of my comfort zone. I’ve always struggled with confidence to the point where I just don’t do things because I can’t do it perfectly the first time. It’s walking a fine line between being realistic with yourself one way or another. It helps to take things one at a time and use the support of your friends and family. I always remind myself: everyone was a beginner!

  1. Becky is such an enthusiastic, fun person. If I ever go to Boston I think I’m going to have to arrange a meetup…! I saw a lot more of her in this post that is very similar to how she expresses herself on her blog. :) I think it’s really sweet that she appreciates the little things in life. I definitely do, too.

Best of luck with your goals for next year, Becky – improving your confidence would go so wonderfully with your bubbly personality :)

    • Um YES seriously let me know if you ever visit Boston!

Thanks for the best wishes! I’m looking forward to doing some reflection and making some new year’s resolutions!

  2. I really enjoyed reading about Becky’s interests, I haven’t ever come across her blog before but I’ll definitely stop by :-)

I love Fallout! I’m a little if-y with the new one too, but overall a great game :-) Ahaha, Flat stanley! I remember how much I loved that book/characther! I would take him everywhere :D

  3. It’s pretty cool that Becky gets to be hands-on with the cool web stuff as a job! Her sketches are amazzinggggg. The cats are adorable (especially the longhair). Oh man, spontaneously getting an apartment is #goals right there! I wonder if I can ever do that some day XD.

I didn’t know what a Flat Stanley was until I read this post! I’ve seen some cool ones with a bunny head and barbie doll XD. Not exactly a Flat Stanley but close enough? I’ve heard a lot of good things about Fallout. Gah, I gotta check it out some day! Neko Atsume was a pretty addicting game. Yes to the cat collection!!

    Thanks for this introduction :)!

  4. I can relate so much with her goals for next year. It’s been in mine for as long as I can remember. Here’s to hoping she can do it a lot more successfully than how I’m doing now!

    xx, Richel Goes Places
