Blogger Dossiers: Pauline

Blogger Dossiers

July is wrapping up, and summer is slowly coming to an end. I may have been too busy complaining about this horrible heat and humidity to everyone, but I haven’t forgotten to do the monthly Blogger Dossiers post! I asked Pauline if she’d like to be featured. Pauline is a blogger I started following a few months back. She’s a university student in England, has great aspirations, and is one of the sweetest bloggers I know. I am really glad I met her through the blogging community. Get to know Pauline better with this post, and do follow her on Twitter and Instagram!

Pauline of Pawlean

Hi, everyone! I’m Pauline, a 20-year-old university student, studying in one of the best universities for medical and biological research in the UK. I grew up in England but am proud of my Spanish-Filipino background.

I love science, blogging, playing video games, feeding my creative needs, changing up my look every year, and trying out different restaurants. Also enjoy planning and, most recently, meditation.

Being in the blogosphere since I was 8~, my blog is a huge part of who I am and where I love sharing my growth and experiences.

Remarkable Recollection

Being part of the X+Y movie productions that actually aired in the cinemas is probably my favourite memory. The whole thing was so much fun and was a once in a lifetime experience (because it isn’t every day you get to shoot for a movie!). In addition, I met some great people and even spotted myself in the movie more than twice so that’s always awesome!

Musical Moment

It’s no secret I love Disney. Rapunzel is the princess I always identify with the most, and this song is one of those that just makes me feel so motivated.

Coffee Break Conversation

Where is your favourite place in the United Kingdom and why?
London. Always London. Because I love big cities, especially since I’ve grown up in a town in the UK where there are more llamas than people. When I visited London a few months ago, I found that my busy-bee personality fitted right in! It’s also a place of amazing opportunities which I work towards every single day (where anybody can be anything!) and dang, looooove those city views!

What do you plan on doing with your Biomedical Science degree?
Inspired by my mother’s efforts as a nurse caused me to grow into this mindset of working in an industry where I can help the world become a better place. Namely through scientific and healthcare innovations, whether that be through a company or education. With the nature of my degree, flexibility is more than possible!

After a lot of research in careers I want to do related to my degree, I realised I was geared towards more client-facing environments in contrast to the typical research scientists that sprout out of BioMed. I hope to work in an industry (e.g. biopharmaceutical) that aligns with my own values of making a difference but in a more client-facing role (e.g. a science communicator). Higher education is also an industry I’m interested in and recently secured a placement in this field!

What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
My friends and I were at a Japanese restaurant and a huge amount of wasabi was served with our orders. One of my friends dared me to have the wasabi all at once. Prior to this meet up, I had wasabi given to me in my geography class as part of a Japan module. Usually I’m very tolerant to hot and spicy food but once I had it, I was crying and screaming haha! I felt like my mouth was on fire. So during this meet-up in particular, I had all the wasabi at once. There’s a video of it somewhere. I remember turning red and seriously burning inside. It was a horribly funny reaction.

What is your all-time favourite video game?
It has got to be Ratchet and Clank. It was the second game I had ever received for my Playstation 2; I fell in love with it after playing it at a friend’s house. I loved the story and gameplay so much that I made sure I played the sequels — especially loved Ratchet and Clank 2: Locked and Loaded.

Countless summers involved locking myself in my room to play the games again and again. I played them so much that I know all the scenes off by heart and use quotes in everyday life. Even today! Haha :P

As a completionist gamer, I fully completed the game, unlocking all the golden weapons and secret Easter eggs — definitely very rewarding! My favourite weapon was the Morph-O ray gun that turned enemies into chicken and getting the gold version of it was probably the highlight of my childhood.

If you were granted three wishes, what are they?
1. It still surprises me how much hate there is in the world because of some who can’t seem to accept diversity and differences. I would, of course, wish for restoration of humanity and peace.

2. Secondly, I’d wish for full understanding of complicated, mysterious conditions and diseases to help move the medical systems forward!

3. And finally, I’d wish to fulfil a childhood dream of being my own Disney Princess for a day or two including the dress, the castle, and have songs coming out of my mouth naturally whenever I have an important point to make.

  1. Thank you so much again Tara for featuring me this month, I had so much fun answering your questions! Excited to find out about future Blogger Dossiers! ^_^

    *big hugs*

    • Thanks for participating, Pauline! <3 I really enjoyed getting to know you better by doing this!

  2. Pauline is awesome and I love the last bit with her being a Disney Princess <3 It's so sweet! I appreciate her 3 wishes honestly, that's really a selfless thing to ask for. I always enjoy reading these and now I wanna watch Tangled for some reason dododododo

I guess listening to that song got it stuck in my head. Haha

Thanks for posting up another Blogger Dossiers!

    • Yes, her wishes are selfless and her wanting to be a Disney Princess is cute. Glad you like this post.

  3. Yay! I love Pauline :) She’s such a hard working and positive person. I think that’s great how she wants to make a difference in the world with her degree. My brother actually got a degree in the BioMed field too!

I like wasabi, but oh man, if I were to eat a lot at once, that would be sooo bad. Fortunately it’s not a lasting burn, but still!

I like how her wishes include being a Disney Princess! That’d be fun :D

    • Wasabi is not my thing! If I had been in her shoes, I’d have most likely died from the wasabi overdose!

  4. I know Pauline!!! Cute teal sweater with the denim skirt! Pauline, I can totally see you as a Rapunzel if you’re reading this, hehe. Glad to know you a bit better after reading this. I can imagine that wasabi burning your nose. I wish you best in completing your medical studies, maybe you’ll be working in London soon! :)

    • Yes, she has a great sense of style! All the photos I’ve seen of her, she’s dressed beautifully!

  5. I love reading Pauline’s blog. Got me into meditating again and introduced me to the awesomeness of bullet journals!

  6. Pauline is definitely one of the nicest bloggers I know! Plus there are a few things we have in common. I really enjoy reading her blog.

I’ve never tried wasabi before but I have a low tolerance for spicy food.

And of course, I’m a Disney freak myself and I love Rapunzel

    • Woot! Glad to know you have some things in common with her. Pauline is such a sweetheart!

  7. This is great. :D Weirdly enough I have known Pauline online since she was 8. Time goes by so quickly and it’s really great to see the person she has turned into. :)

    • That’s a long time! Wow! I think the longest I’ve known someone online is about 17 or 16 years XD

  8. Pauline is so lovely! I love reading her blog, and it was so great to get to learn more about her.

I loved the wasabi story! I think I’d cry haha. I once ate a chilli, and that was bad enough. Never again!

I want to see Tangled! I’ve got really into Disney again, and I’ve been told it’s the most detailed animation Disney has ever done!

  9. Glad to see Pauline being featured on your blog! I admire her aspirations as a person (not just a student and blogger) :D. It’s amazing how she has been in the blogging world since she was 8! Meanwhile, I was still learning how to play Neopets XD.

I’ve heard amazing things about London. I need to go visit there some day! I’m looking forward to hearing all of the neato adventures and learning experiences she shares when she digs deeper into the medical field :).

Oh my goodness, the wasabi incident reminded me of when my boyfriend’s friend ate the whole thing too (thinking that it’s mashed potatoes). Oh man, I can imagine how hot it must’ve been!

I would wish to be a Disney princess too!

    • You know why you need to come to London? BECAUSE I’M HERE.

Also, lololoooool Neopets was the one back in the day!

  10. I’m so happy to see Pauline featured on your blog because I really love her and her blog as well!

I can’t believe that she’s been blogging since she was 8! Lol! A long time has passed since then!

The wasabi incident made me laugh so hard! I love wasabi but I just can’t imagine eating it just like how she did! HAHAHA I don’t want to know how hot it must have been, I wouldn’t be able to handle it. Lol!

  11. Yay for Pauline! I think it’s so fascinating how blogging can connect people all over the world. I like how her first two wishes were for other people, other than herself. If I was in her shoes, I feel like I would have reserved all three wishes for myself, haha.

  12. LOL at the wasabi anecdote! That’s always a funny moment, I must say. Nice to know you more, Pauline! :)

  13. Aww I love Pauline! Glad to see her featured. :) I remember talking to her so many years ago and we were both young. Her passion for both medical and computer science is inspiring, and she has a heart of gold!

I am not a huge fan of wasabi and I generally try to avoid it. I would not have dealt very well with the wasabi either!

  14. MAH BABY PAULINE!!!!

I always love her outfits – like she slays every single one of them. She is one of the sweetest bloggers I know, as well :)

I think I’ve known Pauline the longest, alongside Nancy, because she used to blog back in the day. I’m so glad she’s back now and we’ve been able to reconnect.

Tangled is one of my favourite films! YAASSSS, London is de best. Admittedly, as of recent, I’ve been having a love/hate relationship with London but who doesn’t with their own city?

Wishing Pauline all the best for the future – I know it holds exciting opportunities for her :D

    • She slays her outfit like a pro! Her style is just fantastic.

And wow, that’s amazing you’ve known her that long! :D
