My Favourite Things: June 2016

My Favourite Things is a precursor to TC’s Treasures. Starting in November 2016, all My Favourite Things posts will be known as TC’s Treasures.

First Tuesday of the month means it’s time to do Raisa and Eirene’s wonderful link-up, My Favourite Things. May’s been a crazy busy month, but I still found time to discover new favourites. From books to skincare products to films and music, I’ve been exposed to a variety of new things. I hope to discover more in June! With that said, here are my favourites!

Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods & Heroes

Percy Jackson's Greek Gods and Greek Heroes

I finally took the time to read Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods and Percy Jackson’s Greek Heroes. Like the previous Percy Jackson books, I had a blast reading these. The modern references, for the most part, cracked me up. Percy’s narrative just brings a huge smile to my face, and I find that his take on the Ancient Greek mythology was pure fun. Oh, and his snarky comments in the narration? Absolutely brilliant. He even states his opinions on how he found the plots all messed up. All that combined just added for a fantastic reading experience. If you’ve read Percy Jackson and the Olympians, I recommend these companion books!

Benton’s Snail Bee High Content Essence

Benton Snail Bee High Content Essence

I switched up my skincare routine a bit because of summer. The moisturiser I currently use doesn’t leave my skin feeling as soft as my heavier one did, so I tried using the Benton’s Snail Bee High Content Essence in my routine, and that left my skin feeling so soft! This is the first essence I incorporated into my skincare regime, and I find myself really liking it a lot. Even better that it hardly has any scent, and it doesn’t have a lot of the crazy chemicals I don’t like!

“The Hanging Tree”

I finally sat my butt down to watch the rest of The Hunger Games films. I’d only seen the first one, but not the rest. Of all the songs and scenes, this is my favourite. I really like this song because it’s beautiful in an understated way. It starts off with Jennifer Lawrence singing this a capella and then the orchestra and choir comes in, combining with the scene where District 5 residents march on to explode the dam while singing the song . . . just, damn. It left a powerful impact on me. This is the true power of music, and I was surprised to find it in the third film.

Johanna Mason

Johanna Mason

When I read The Hunger Games books, I found myself really liking Johanna Mason. In real life, I’d not like her, but I really do admire her gutsy and snarky personality. In fact, Johanna is one of the reasons that made the second film brilliant. Jena Malone’s portrayal surprised and impressed me to where Malone is Johanna. I absolutely adore her to the point that I was pissed that she wasn’t really in the last two films!

Finnick Odair

Finnick Odair

Lastly, FINNICK ODAIR. Holy snap. I liked him in the books, but I never really quite pictured him in my head until I saw Sam Claflin as Finnick and asdfjkll;asdfjk; I’ll be shameless and say that he’s HOT. Holy cow. Like, whoah! I know he’s supposed to be eye candy, but I didn’t think I’d be totally smittened by his looks. Of course, it helps that he has an awesome personality as well. But guhhhh! Finnick Odair is my new love, and he’s taken over my desktop wallpaper. Sorry, Fili and Kili, but Finnick Odair is who I want to stare at for a long time!

Have you read or watched any of my favourites this month? Who’re your favourite characters from The Hunger Games franchise? Have you tried Benton’s Snail Bee High Content Essence? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Comments

  1. I can’t believe I haven’t read those two books yet! It completely slipped my mind that they were available. Huhu. Percy Jackson is hands-down my favorite book series/universe. The Hanging Tree also gave me a lot of feelings during the film. I might have gotten a bit teary eye. I love music that moves me like that.

    • Read it! Those two books are a great companion :D

Yes, The Hanging Tree also made me teary eyed, too XD It’s certainly a moving scene.

  2. I’m getting so intrigued by the snail bee essence since both you and Raisa have added it to your favorites list! Hmm…

I get what you mean re: Johanna! I like her, too, and I think Jena Malone did portray her very well in the movie! I LOL’d at the Finnick Odair bit! You so cute, Terruh! ;)

    • Yes! We both like it, so it’s something to give a try, haha XD

      And awww XD;;; Thanks, Jae!

  3. I have yet to catch up on new Riordan books (the ones I have read were Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus). My sister got me to read them and it stuck to her more than Harry Potter did which probably is a generation thing. It’s quite enjoyable still and makes you want to brush up on Greek and Roman Mythology. I got her a signed copy of The Sword of Summer at NYCC last year, which I still have yet to give her. Can’t wait to read more Riordan books! :)

    • That’s so sweet of you for getting that :) Percy Jackson and its related series have definitely renewed my interest in Ancient Greek and Roman mythology, so they’re definitely a good gateway for that!

  4. I’ve heard about the rave over Percy Jackson’s books! My boyfriend has a few of these books ;). The skin moisturizer looks like one of those “hip and effective” solutions. Reminds me of Kiehl’s for some reason XD. Good that you’re not putting all of those chemicals on your face! Out of all people, I still haven’t watched The Hunger Games yet! I’m just focusing on Super Heroes these days, which THG would technically fall under that? ;o.

    • THG . . . I wouldn’t classify it as a superhero film, no, but it sort of has elements in them? XD Either or, I’d give the films a try! Though I feel like without reading the books, you’ll be quite confused.

  5. TARAAAAAA! DO NOT GET ME STARTED ON HUNGER GAMES AND FINNICK. I love that photo of him, I also used to have it as my background wallpaper *hi-5 girl* He’s an amazing actor honestly, I’m watching his other film: Me Before You on Monday. I haven’t seen it yet but I already know, you should watch it. At least the trailer anyway, he looks amazing! Eye candy for sure xD

I also love that song, I just love Hunger Games. :P

That snail skin care moisturiser looks interesting, I’ve heard of similar ones before. Apparently have great benefits!

    • Woot! I’m glad I’m not the only one in love with Finnick/Sam Claflin XD He’s just soooo handsome! I’m glad we’re both squealing over THG and Finnick! ^___^

  6. I want to watch the Hunger Games films at some point because I’ve never watched them though I heard they became super popular! Ah I have so much to watch/read this summer! :)

Two recommendations for the Snail Essence in one month? That sounds like a pretty good product! I shall keep it in mind for later because right now my skin is acting up like my teenage years. :(

    • I’d recommend reading the books first. I feel like had I not read the books, I’d been totally lost in THG universe!

Yes, the snail essence is awesome! I really love it :D

  7. Wow, you know it’s been a long time since I’ve left anyone comments when Google can’t even fill in the forms anymore…haha.

Have you read or watched any of my favourites this month?
Yes!!!! Recently just finished the last Hunger Games. Brilliant. Loved the books. Loved the movies. Also disappointed that Johanna wasn’t more in the movies, but you know how screen adaptations are, they suck. I still think they did a fantastic job with the movies though. The capitol was exactly how I imagined it would be & the outfits were so beautiful & funky! Loved it.

Who’re your favourite characters from The Hunger Games franchise?
You know, I didn’t care much for Peeta….I thought he was such a pussy & I still think he is, even if he’s brave in a non traditional male way. I think I’m just not into overly sensitive types, SOOO I would say not Peeta, but I did like the mayor’s daughter. I forgot her name, but she was the one who gave Katniss the pendant. I honestly forgot so much of the books. I don’t have a favorite I don’t think. Katniss is badass though. Kind of loved the drunk a lot. Oh you know what? Cena. He was awesome.

Finnick I think I imagined him to look very similar to the actor that portrays him. He’s definitely a very traditional attractive male lead, but not my type haha. He’s such a sweetie though. You’re right about that! Beautiful inside & out. His love for Annie…dawwww.

Have you tried Benton’s Snail Bee High Content Essence?
Nope! Don’t one of their products also have skin whitening properties or something? I know that’s kind of all the rage in Asia, I didn’t realize how people could abuse it so much because when I went to Thailand last year, I saw a LOT of overly whitened faces & I knew it wasn’t albinism. Scarrrryyyy. Yellow skin is beautiful too. :)

    • Interestingly enough, all the characters I like in THG are all supporting or minor characters. I don’t have any love for Peeta or Katniss or Gale ~_~; I’m not sure why that’s the case LOL But yes, Peeta is definitely brave in a non-traditional way, but I’ll take Finnick over him any day!

  8. Reading this made me realize I haven’t watched a single Hunger Games movie! :O I’ve read the books and liked them a lot, but for some reason I never got around to the movies. I really should, shouldn’t I?

Finnick actually look pretty much how I pictured him in the book. He is definitely very pretty, but unlike you I wouldn’t trade Fili and Kili for him. Long hair and beards beats pretty much everything imo, haha! ;)

    • I love Fili and Kili, a lot, too, but I need someone new on my desktop, haha!

  9. I haven’t read the companion books but I love Rick Riordan!! I did read his newest books The Trials of Apollo and it was really good.

I have only seen the first Hunger Game movie but I’ll have to see the other ones!

    • I need to read that! I didn’t even know there was another new Greek/Roman series from him until I saw that somewhere one day and did a double-take XD

Do watch the other THG films. The second and third ones are way better than the first for me!

  10. I think it’s about time I add the Percy Jackson books into my kindle. I’ve been meaning to read them for a while now, and it looks like I’ll have plenty of time for reading now. XD

I’ve never read the books for the Hunger Games, but I’ve seen all of the movies. That song definitely is catchy. I remember they used to play a remix of it on the radio a lot, but I think I actually like the original better.

    • Yes, do read PJ! I highly recommend those books XD

Did the movies make a lot of sense to you without reading the books? I felt that if I hadn’t read the books, I’d have been very confused with the films.

  11. I’ve only seen the movies for Percy Jackson and Hunger Games, and even then I only saw the first HG movie. :’D I’m glad you enjoyed it though. Seems like you’re loving it a lot! Do you follow the fandom on Tumblr?

    • No, I don’t really follow the fandom on Tumblr. I should check out what’s on there, but I’m afraid I’ll get sucked into them, hahaha!

  12. Ah, percy jackson. it’s one of those popular YA series that I don’t touch. not that I don’t want to but it’s just… I’m not like I used to —who used to read the YA series that everyone seems to be reading, e.g. hunger games (I don’t even read pass the first book lol)
I did watched the movies though and it was …I don’t know, okay. nothing spectacular or anything. I’m curious about Thalia though, she seems interesting.

I’ve heard a lot about snail essence for skincare. seems like it’s a popular thing in Korean skincare / products, yea? I’ve never tried using any, though. then again, I never used any Korean skincare products :))

I did watched catching fire though, but not mockingjay. I like the concept of hunger games, the whole post-apocalyptic setting and stuff but I guess I’m just not as keen because it’s such a popular series? Like, it’s everywhere and I’m just…nah. my favorite character died in the first book anyway: it’s Clove. I like her and I love Isabelle Fuhrman portraying Clove ;)

    • I read them because they interest me — not because everyone reads them. Heck, I’m usually slow about mainstream upkeep as it is, so if I do read/watch something, it’s usually at least a year more after everyone’s done raving about them, haha.

  13. I need to finish Percy Jackson and the Olympians series~! I can’t believe there are more series out there. I gotta read them! I enjoy them too much, and Percy is something else. Hahaha

    • Yes, check out the other series and companion books. They’re delightful!

  14. Finnick Odair in the books is BOMBSHELLS! I didn’t really see Finnick in Sam the first time I found out Sam’s gonna play Finnick. I imagined Finnick has a longer hair.

    • I don’t think I imagined anything about his hair XD I just imagined him to be handsome and pretty, and Sam fulfilled that role for me XD
