My Favourite Things: May 2016

My Favourite Things is a precursor to TC’s Treasures. Starting in November 2016, all My Favourite Things posts will be known as TC’s Treasures.

First Tuesday of the month means it’s time to do Raisa and Eirene’s wonderful link-up, My Favourite Things. I didn’t encounter a lot of new things last month to blog about (mostly because I had to force myself to not buy any more Lush products for now), but I did finally try out three new Korean skincare products that I’ve been wanting to try for the last couple of months. So far, the products have been working out for me, and I’m thrilled that I seem to be breaking out less! With that said, here are my favourites!

Benton Cosmetics ~ Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel, Aloe BHA Skin Toner, and Honest Cleansing Foam

I finally got to try these three Benton products — Honest Cleansing Foam, Aloe BHA Toner, and Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel. Using all three has minimised my breakouts, and I am real pleased by that! I really like how they’re made of “safe” ingredients and don’t carry sulphates, parabens, and other ingredients that make me wary. The price-ratio of the products are really good — a little bit will go a long way!

Of the three, I really like the toner a lot. I’m sure it’s been helping with my breakout since it contains salicylic acid, but unlike the astringents I used in the past, this doesn’t sting my skin at all. I have to say, I am not fond of the bottle, though. I’m so used to the vertical pumps rather than the spray pump, so I’ve poured the toner into my vertical pump bottle instead, and that’s been easier to deal with.

The gel is also nice, and I only need a small amount to apply all over my face. The natural aloe scent in the gel smells great, and I’m glad Benton didn’t add any extra fragrances. I can see that this gel will be a good moisturiser during the summer months because it doesn’t feel so heavy. It’s not really soothing as the name states, but it does the job of keeping my face moisturised.

As for the cleanser, I am not fond of its rose scent at all. Scent aside, though, it really does feel like I am putting on cloud after I lather the cleanser in my hand! I really like how it makes my face feel, and it does feel gentle. I use this in the evening when I have to use an oil cleanser, and it’s been working out great for me.

Have you used any of the Benton products? Would you try them? If you’re interested, I recommend my US-based friends to get the Benton Box from Memebox!

  1. I haven’t heard of Benton, but it’s a shame you don’t like the rose scent of the cleanser! I use a rosewater toner, which has a more natural scent, and it’s very subtle… or maybe you just don’t like the smell of roses at all. :P I really like it though!

I generally prefer facial products that don’t smell too much, but I can agree that if I don’t like the smell it can be a bit off-putting.

    • I think I am not too fond of rose scent. Even before this cleanser, I never liked that scent. Oh well. At least it’s something I can wash off quickly, haha XD

  2. Jessica on

I’ve never used any Benton products, or Korean beauty products for that matter. I’m so happy that they are working for you. I’ll try to get the Memebox that you mentioned when I get the extra money – though I’m a bit curious on how well they work on dry skin. :/

    • Hrm, I think they may be good for dry skin, but I am not sure. My skin’s oilier, so it may or may not work as well on dry skin. You could always try ordering the sample box, instead :3

  3. This is the first time I’ve read about this product Tara, but it really seems interesting and I might be willing to try one if ever I spot them on the stores. Thanks for sharing.

P.S: Thanks for also reminding me that it’s My Favorite Things already. Missed my last month. Will be working on it.

    Stay sugoi! <3

    • I’ve yet to see any Benton products in a shop — so far they seem to be online-only :/ But I hope you will see them one day and try them ^^

  4. I’ll have to check those out! I’ve recently started exploring Korean skincare products, but there are just so many to choose from that sometimes it’s a bit daunting.

    • It is definitely daunting X_X It’s especially daunting when I’m in Korea and am surrounded by 23080230208 stores! LOL I hope you’ll like the products if you give them a try.

  5. Thank you again for getting me a Benton Memebox! <3 I can't wait to try it! I broke out after a long day riding planes, so I'm interested to see how the toner will work for me.

    • You’re welcome, Raisa! I hope the products all work for you! <3

  6. I havent seen any Benton products here in the Philippines, though that aloe vera products looks convincing to me. I wonder if there’s a product good for people suffering from seborrhic dermatitis cos i have it :(

    – Jean

    • Yeah, they seem to only be online, so maybe in the future they’ll be in stores . . .

I’ve no idea if the products would be good for those suffering from seborrhic dermatitis, but it wouldn’t hurt to try with some samples!

  7. I haven’t heard of Benton! The gel sounds nice, and I’m glad you like all three products, even if you’re not a fan of the cleanser’s smell. That’s also great that they’ve helped with your breakouts. I was so tired of having breakouts that I brought it up with my dermatologist a couple years ago. I have been using antibiotic face wipes, and they work so well!

    • I’m glad the antibiotic face wipes work for you! It’s good that you went to a dermatologist to see if your breakouts could be lessened. I am finally going to a dermatologist next week to see if I can get some issues resolved myself.

  8. I’ve not heard of the Benton brand before. I’m really picky about the scents that come in gels and cleansers so I definitely prefer the more “natural” scents. It’s a bummer the smell isn’t the greatest, but I’m glad that you actually like it! I need to find a good face cleanser, so I will have to keep this in mind. :)

    • You may like it! Memebox has a small trial box for Benton’s products, so I’d order that first to see if you’ll like them ^^

  9. How interesting! I’ve never heard of Benton but I’m glad it’s been working out for you! I can’t wait to go skin care shopping in Korea!

    • Yes, you’ll love all the skincare shopping opportunities here! ^_^

  10. Aloe is really good for your skin whether it’s to heal wounds, make blemishes go away, or other wonders. The toner is usually a common favorite so I don’t blame you! It’s great that the products doesn’t make your face feel dry or itchy, so it sounds like a good investment towards skin care! I haven’t used this brand before, though my mom would probably make me rub real aloe vera on my skin instead XD. Thanks for sharing! :D

    • That’s a good idea to rub real aloe vera on your skin, too! Aloe vera is such a great product ^^

The toner is definitely a favourite amongst a lot of Korean skincare enthusiast — I can see why now!

  11. You always blog about your latest bath and body care hauls. Nevermind that. I want to know how you set aside money for these. Haha!

    • I just set aside what I can to buy what I want XD I don’t really have a method, haha!
