Ever since my Sokcho trip in November, I’ve been feeling a bit restless. That trip must’ve released the wanderlust bug in me because I’ve compiled a list of places I have to visit one day. The only problem is I am not keen on aeroplanes and riding them for more than three hours doesn’t appeal to me. Then there’s the money and the time factors, and that I clearly need to plan and budget for everything. Not to mention determining my next destination, which is easier said than done.
There are so many places I want to visit. Most of the places I want to visit are in the northern hemisphere, and I’ve zero places to visit any tropical areas. In fact, the places around the equator are No Man’s Land for me. Hot and humid tropical weather and I are not meant to be. Still, though, preferences aside, I think I do have a good variety on my list. See below for my top choices and my reasoning.
Of course Japan would be on my list! While I’d love to return to Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto, I’m really curious about Hokkaido. The end of Hakuouki takes place in Hokkaido, and I really want to see places like Goryokaku. The history buff in me wants to see it, and since I haven’t been there yet, I’ll make this destination my priority!
Speaking of history, I also want to visit Amsterdam because of Anne Frank’s house. I’m a big Holocaust aficionado, and I’ve always loved reading about Anne Frank, so it’d be great to finally make it there to see Het Achterhuis in person.
After Holland, I’ll make a stop in Poland to visit Auschwitz-Birkenau and other concentration camp sites. Plus, I also want to visit Warsaw and Krakow because of their significance during World War II. Piokun, who is from Poland, can also help me tour his home country.
Number the Stars by Lois Lowry is one of my favourite childhood books, and it takes place in Denmark. I’ve wanted to visit Denmark ever since I read the book, and it’d be great to see the places mentioned in the book!
Prague, Czech Republic
As for Prague, one of my friends told me about the place. I also looked up photos of the cultural sites in Prague. These sites have managed to avoid all the war and destruction in the 20th century. I’m no architecture expert, but I’d still like to see the sites to compare with the modern buildings.
Five words: The Lord of the Rings. The amazing cinematography really aided in making New Zealand look absolutely breathtaking. I would love to visit there to see Hobbiton and all the other places they filmed at. Plus, the Maori culture really interests me since I saw Whale Rider. I would love to travel there one day. Oh, and I’d love to meet up with Caity!
London and all over UK
I am a huge Anglophile. I would be happy sitting in a pub in London or Glasgow listening to the accents all around me. One of my dreams is to see the Buckingham Palace guards in person :D Also, being a huge Harry Potter fan, United Kingdom just calls to me. Plus, if I go to London, I’ll meet up with several online buddies like Chynna!
I’ve developed this urge to see more of nature, and Nepal really interests me. I’ve been looking at photos of its landscape, and something about its rural and rustic appearances really appeals to me. And while I’d totally fail at scaling Mt. Everest, I still wouldn’t mind seeing it in person. I am also interested in Nepali’s language and culture, and I’d love to learn more about them. Lastly, there’s the fact that I love Nepal’s national anthem. It’s a huge earworm!
I mentioned above that I’d go to United Kingdom and New Zealand and meet up with online friends. Well, that’s precisely why I want to go to Australia. I would love to meet up with Georgie, Kya, Miss B, Vickie, and Sarah just to name a few and a couple of other friends in the Harry Potter fandom. So many people to meet there. Oh, and I want to go there for Tim Tam! Unfortunately, though, there aren’t anything I really want to see in Australia, so my sightseeing would be quite . . . limited.
There’s only one reason for me to go here and it’s because Zanarkand from Final Fantasy X is based off this city XD; Yes, this isn’t a real good reason to go to Uzbekistan, but I still wouldn’t mind checking the place out if I can, haha!
Where are some places you want to visit? What interest you most about new destinations? Food? Culture? Landscape? Let me know!
