Dream Destinations

Ever since my Sokcho trip in November, I’ve been feeling a bit restless. That trip must’ve released the wanderlust bug in me because I’ve compiled a list of places I have to visit one day. The only problem is I am not keen on aeroplanes and riding them for more than three hours doesn’t appeal to me. Then there’s the money and the time factors, and that I clearly need to plan and budget for everything. Not to mention determining my next destination, which is easier said than done.

There are so many places I want to visit. Most of the places I want to visit are in the northern hemisphere, and I’ve zero places to visit any tropical areas. In fact, the places around the equator are No Man’s Land for me. Hot and humid tropical weather and I are not meant to be. Still, though, preferences aside, I think I do have a good variety on my list. See below for my top choices and my reasoning.

Hokkaido, Japan
Of course Japan would be on my list! While I’d love to return to Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto, I’m really curious about Hokkaido. The end of Hakuouki takes place in Hokkaido, and I really want to see places like Goryokaku. The history buff in me wants to see it, and since I haven’t been there yet, I’ll make this destination my priority!

Amsterdam, Holland
Speaking of history, I also want to visit Amsterdam because of Anne Frank’s house. I’m a big Holocaust aficionado, and I’ve always loved reading about Anne Frank, so it’d be great to finally make it there to see Het Achterhuis in person.

After Holland, I’ll make a stop in Poland to visit Auschwitz-Birkenau and other concentration camp sites. Plus, I also want to visit Warsaw and Krakow because of their significance during World War II. Piokun, who is from Poland, can also help me tour his home country.

Number the Stars by Lois Lowry is one of my favourite childhood books, and it takes place in Denmark. I’ve wanted to visit Denmark ever since I read the book, and it’d be great to see the places mentioned in the book!

Prague, Czech Republic
As for Prague, one of my friends told me about the place. I also looked up photos of the cultural sites in Prague. These sites have managed to avoid all the war and destruction in the 20th century. I’m no architecture expert, but I’d still like to see the sites to compare with the modern buildings.

New Zealand
Five words: The Lord of the Rings. The amazing cinematography really aided in making New Zealand look absolutely breathtaking. I would love to visit there to see Hobbiton and all the other places they filmed at. Plus, the Maori culture really interests me since I saw Whale Rider. I would love to travel there one day. Oh, and I’d love to meet up with Caity!

London and all over UK
I am a huge Anglophile. I would be happy sitting in a pub in London or Glasgow listening to the accents all around me. One of my dreams is to see the Buckingham Palace guards in person :D Also, being a huge Harry Potter fan, United Kingdom just calls to me. Plus, if I go to London, I’ll meet up with several online buddies like Chynna!

I’ve developed this urge to see more of nature, and Nepal really interests me. I’ve been looking at photos of its landscape, and something about its rural and rustic appearances really appeals to me. And while I’d totally fail at scaling Mt. Everest, I still wouldn’t mind seeing it in person. I am also interested in Nepali’s language and culture, and I’d love to learn more about them. Lastly, there’s the fact that I love Nepal’s national anthem. It’s a huge earworm!

I mentioned above that I’d go to United Kingdom and New Zealand and meet up with online friends. Well, that’s precisely why I want to go to Australia. I would love to meet up with Georgie, Kya, Miss B, Vickie, and Sarah just to name a few and a couple of other friends in the Harry Potter fandom. So many people to meet there. Oh, and I want to go there for Tim Tam! Unfortunately, though, there aren’t anything I really want to see in Australia, so my sightseeing would be quite . . . limited.

Samarkand, Uzbekistan
There’s only one reason for me to go here and it’s because Zanarkand from Final Fantasy X is based off this city XD; Yes, this isn’t a real good reason to go to Uzbekistan, but I still wouldn’t mind checking the place out if I can, haha!

Where are some places you want to visit? What interest you most about new destinations? Food? Culture? Landscape? Let me know!

  1. New Zealand definitely lives up to all the hype. It is just absolutely gorgeous. Even though I have lived here for over 4 years now, I just never get sick of all the beauty around me every day. I’d love to meet you one day, too! I hope you decide to travel here one day! It’s well worth it!

    • So glad to hear that it’s really and truly a beautiful place, and not something media hypes up! I’ll definitely try and make it down there! ^^

  2. New Zealand is definitely on my list as well. Even if it’s just to Hobbiton.

  3. It’s so lovely that your desire to travel has really been sparked and it would be so awesome if you were able to visit all of these places and many many more! :D It does take some saving, but completely worth it in the end. :3

  4. My ultimate Dream Destination is the Yi Peng festival in Thailand. Anyway, wishing you all the best in achieving your dream to travel in these places!

  5. Bavaria, Germany is one of the things on top of my list which includes visiting Munich, Neuschwanstein Castle, and the Bavarian Alps.

New Zealand is also definitely on my list.

Last but not the least, there’s Santorini, Greece. Ah, the beauty!

    • Germany is definitely on my list, too, but not as high as the ones I’ve listed on the post XD Like you, I’d love to see Neuschwanstein Castle!

  6. Chansoriya on

I know the travel bug feel all too well! I’d love to go to Hokkaido too especially for the Sapporo Snow festival to see all the amazing ice sculptors I heard and read about. Poland and Australia are also on my list to visit so I can meet up with my friends who live there.

I think that food is the most exciting part about a cultures because how it’s prepared, presented, and it’s history is in every bite you take. You get a glimpse into what is important to them and why, so it really makes me happy thinking about the food as I eat it and try to appreciate it.

I’m horribly out of tuned with nature that I would probably do better with city tours than outdoor group treks but I do love landscape. It’s such a huge world that no one place is exactly alike! That’s always mind blowing!

    • Food is definitely a fun and important part of culture! One of my co-workers said that food is common cultural things we all like to share the most XD

I would love to see the Snow Festival in Sapporo! That sounds amazingly fun. :D

  7. It’s interesting how you don’t have any places in the US for your dream destination. From this list, I’d like to go to Hokkaido, Prague, New Zealand, London, and Australia as well! It’s amazing how many bloggers are from Aussie.

There are some intersting places I’ve never heard of before like Auschwitz-Birkenau. Samarkand sounds like one of the places in a game I used to play XD. It makes sense because it’s on that region of the world.

What about the tropics of Thailand or southeast Asia? I am interested about what kind of food people around the world are into- as long as it doesn’t collide with my morals (eg. eating spiders).

    • For the US alone, I’d need to create a separate list because of the sheer amount of places I want to see! That’s why I haven’t included any of them here ^^;;

The tropics and southeast Asia has never appealed to me. Even now, the idea of going to the Philippines or Thailand just makes me very uncomfortable at the thought of the hot, humid climate! If I go there, it’s to like meet a best friend or something!

  8. If I wouldn’t be so scared of flying and if I’d have the necessary cash I’d love to see NYC and also the west coast of the States. I like the atmosphere in the States, it’s totally different than here.

New Zealand is on my list because of the nature.

I’d be interested in seeing how Tokyo is like.

Ireland and Scotland as well as Iceland, the nature must be amazing as well.

I’d like to visit Vancouver, Canada, too.

    So many nice places… :)

    • You have a lot of good places on your list! Iceland is a place I wouldn’t mind checking out either.

  9. You are just like me, the only countries that appeal to me are in the north. But I mainly prefer Asia, since I feel more comfortable around people who look like me. It’s also generally safer.

  10. I also can’t stand to be in an airplane for more than 3 hours! It’s terrible since I like to travel so much but I just can’t stay put for that long – even if I try to take very late night flights so I can sleep it off. Ugh. Still, most of the countries I want to visit are at least a 12 hours long airplane ride so I have to get over it. My top five travel destinations are: New York, Greece, Paris, Italy, and London. :)

    • I think my main thing with long flights are that I really hate the bathroom X_____X; Plus, just sitting down for like 6+ hours? Ughhhhh.

  11. I plan on going to Hokkaido for my next Japan trip! Well, whenever that will be, haha. There are also other locations in northern Japan that I’m really interested in, so my plan was to travel north and end in Hokkaido :)

This is a nice list though! New Zealand and Australia are on my list as well. New Zealand seems like it’d be perfect for landscape photography. Iceland is another one I want to visit for photography. I was seriously considering it for my vacation last year. I’d also like to visit friends in Norway!

    • I hope you’ll get to visit Hokkaido :)

You should totally go to Norway. It also appears to be great for landscape photography, and you’ll get to meet friends! So that’s a win-win situation if you ask me!

  12. Wow, lots of cool places to visit. I never really travel because of all my health problems but I would really love to one day. If I get the chance I will have to make a list like this. I have wanted to visit Germany, Japan, and Korea.

    • Woot! Glad to see that Korea’s on your list :D I would definitely recommend hitting both Japan and Korea the same trip since they are so close to one another ^^

  13. I’d love to go to Japan – that would be amazing! It’s great that you want to meet other bloggers as well. I think I’d be really nervous at a meet-up.

New Zealand would be great to visit too. It’d be almost a day on a plane for me to go though, and I don’t know if I could do that haha.

Hope you get to visit these!

    • I’ve never had a problem with meeting online friends and blogging friends! It’s always been a wonderful experience to finally meet the in person.

And ugh, a day’s worth of flight to a location would drive me absolutely batty!

  14. I would love to travel anywhere! I don’t go outside of my state very often, so I would probably enjoy going anywhere that is different from Seattle. New Zealand would definitely be interesting to visit, because like you said LORD OF THE RINGS. Hobbits. And Gandalf. And Kakapos.

    • Ahhh! Let’s plan a trip to New Zealand together, hahaha! XD That’d be crazy fun!

  15. What an awesome post!! Thanks so much for allowing us into a glimpse of your dream!! I think you will really like Hokkaido! When I went there back in April, I wish we had more time to explore the north since we loved Sapporo so much. New Zealand, Australia and Peru is actually on our list! :D

    • Awww! I’m glad you were able to visit Hokkaido! Your comment is really making me want to go there like now XD

I hope you will get to visit the other places on your list!

  16. I’m planning my trip to Japan! It won’t be for a while, but it’s definitely on my mind.

For a domestic destination, I’d also love to go to San Francisco. I have a few online friends that I’m itching to meet there. :D I’d also love to go to San Diego. The only place in California I’ve been to is LA. The US is such a large country, even going to another state feels like going to a new country. :O

    • San Fran is definitely on my list of visiting if I’m ever in the US! And you’re so right about US being so large that each state feels like going to a new country. I can so see that, and see how different Maine would be compared to like California :)

  17. I’m with you all the way about hot and humid climate… I don’t handle heat well and have no desire at all to visit tropical places. I’d take a snowy mountain over a sandy beach any day!

Your list is actually very similar to my own. :)

I’d love to go to New Zealand because Lord of the Rings, and Prague is on my travel list as well. Everyone I know who’s been there has had nothing but praise for the city.

I’m quite the Anglophile myself and just LOVE the UK! I’ve been to London and Edinburgh already, but I’m dying to go back and visit other cities. Glasgow is probably highest on the list for me. And of course I’m coming back to London several times if I can, that city was just amazing <3

    • YES. I’m glad I’m not the only one who hates heat and humidity with a passion XD

I’m also jealous that you’ve visited the UK! I can’t wait until I get to visit there! ^^

  18. I’d love to visit Ireland, or anywhere at all, to be honest. I don’t have any more destinations than that, but knowing the fact I can’t leave just due to my homebody nature, I stay home and enjoy trips through the stories and pictures of others. I’m quite fine with that ;D

    • That’s good you’re fine with it :) To each their own! Still, though, I hope you’ll make it to Ireland sometime in the future!

  19. I was lucky enough to have visited or lived in a few places on your list!

It will be more expensive, but we’re thinking about heading to Hokkaido for our annual ski trip next year. We also went to New Zealand a few months ago and refused to go anywhere near anything labelled “Lord of the Rings”. Eventually they really need to realise that LoTR is getting old and the place is beautiful and worthy of a visit on its own! :)

While I’m not huge on visiting big cities, I will definitely visit Seoul at some point and try all the local foods. We have to catch up then!

    • Do visit Seoul! I would love to meet you in person! ^_^ Just let me know in advance XD

New Zealand sounds lovely. I really need to go there! XD

  20. If I start writing a list of all places I want to visit someday, it’d take me forever to finish! There’s so much to discover around the world, and thinking about all the possibilities excites me! I agree on a lot of dream destinations you mentioned here! <3

    • Yes, the possibilities are endless! The world is a huge place. It’d be lovely to see everything in our lifetime. :3

  21. I think I would definitely take advantage of the complementary alcohol that they have on international flights. That would definitely make the flight more bearable. XD

    This post is just itching my travel bug right now. Even within California, there are so many places that I’ve never been to. I really need to take more weekend trips. ^^;

    • Go! Go on more weekend trips! I would do the same myself, but I’m just too tired most weekends X_X; But I’m going to try a bit more this year. I already have plans to go to Jeonju with as a trip with my co-workers :3

  22. At me big dream to visit London! Very much I want to visit ski resorts still. I wish you to visit all listed places.

    • I hope you will get to travel to your dream destinations, too :) I’ve been to a ski resort once, and I learned that skiing is too hard for me. I much prefer sledding, haha! XD

  23. I love reading people’s lists of places they’ve love to go because I always discover a new place and then decide I want to go there too. Ha!

I’d love to visit Japan one day. It’s a place that’s always fascinated me – also they have those fancy toilets that wash your butt for you.

I’m hoping to go to Amsterdam in April with a friend from work!

I would definitely recommend Prague. I went there about 2 and a half years ago now, and it was so fun. I can vouch for the architecture – it is simply beautiful.

COME TO LANDAN, MATE. WE’D BE HAPPY TO ‘AVE YA! Also, we have the Harry Potter Studios, so you can’t go wrong!

I hope you get to go to all of your places on your list! My list is so long, it’d probably go on for several posts, haha! When it comes to new countries I am always down to try new foods and discover if their culture is different to my own :)

    • Girl! Let’s travel together :D That’d be so awesome!

That fancy butt cleaning toilet is so weird! I think I prefer cleaning my own butt, thanks XD

Do go to Amsterdam for me!

I do hope you’ll get to go to your own dream places!
