Blogger Dossiers: Joy

Blogger Dossiers

Happy Thanksgiving to all my US friends and readers. I hope everyone had a lot of yummy things to eat and spent a good day with your friends and families. I did, and now I’m here to do this month’s Blogger Dossiers post! For this month, I asked Joy if she’d like to be featured. Joy is such a talented and creative young woman. I admire her passion and dedication to her craft, which she also sells online. Do check out Joy on Twitter and Instagram. Have fun reading about Joy!

Remarkable Recollection

My favorite memory is one of when I was a child. My siblings and I were having a sleepover with some of our cousins and somewhere along the night we decided to pretend like we were opening a market. We gathered all of the items from the pantry in the kitchen and set up shop. Then we split into two groups. My brother, cousin and I were to be the shop owners and my sister and two other cousins were going to be the customers. We were so proud of our market and took great care in setting it up and we even used a VHS box as a cash register. When we were all set, we called our “shoppers” in so that they could come inside. What was supposed to be a fun experience turned into a nightmare when my sister and her bandana masked gang showed up with water and nerf guns to rob us instead of shopping. They kept screaming “Give me all your money” and they even tied my little brother up, who was only 3 and in a puddle of tears by then. I was terrified when it happened but looking back, it was the funniest thing I have ever gone through lol.

Musical Moment

I have favorite artist and albums but for some reason the song “Home” by Phillip Phillips is one that I have to recommend. It was the song that my husband and I walked out to as husband and wife and it has such a special place in our hearts. Growing up, my family moved A LOT. We were never stable and it took a toll on me emotionally because each move caused more loss. To this day, I don’t have a single photo of myself from childhood or any mementos from my life before high school. All I ever wanted was some sort of stability and when we got engaged, Josh, took every dime he earned/saved and bought me, us, a home. This song played during the ride home from the orchard we got engaged and he picked it as our engagement theme song because it described what he wanted to provide me.

Coffee Break Conversation

How did you get into crafting? Who motivated you? What was your first completed project?
Believe it or not, I didn’t start crafting until my mother-in-law taught me how to crochet when I was nineteen. Realizing that I could make something so cool using my own two hands felt amazing and sparked a creative fire under me. My own mom was super supportive too! She would buy me different kind of crafting kits all of the time so that I was trying something new. I didn’t start selling until Josh gave me this huge pep talk after I graduated from art school. He truly believes that this is what I can do for a living. I’m glad I have him!

My first complete project was a hat and scarf set I crocheted for Josh during a camping trip one year. It’s become a traditional of ours now. Each year I knit or crochet him a new set.

What kind of business do you want to have in the future and why that particular business?
I hope to turn my crafting into a full on business venture because it’s my passion.

What names (first, middle, et cetera) would you consider naming your future children and why those names?
I’m going to sound like a proper crazy person but I have all of my future kids names picked out and if I see anyone on the internet using these exact names, I will find you and I will sue you, LOL.

Titus Benedict – Because Josh thought Titus was boss and we love Benedict Cumberbatch. No Shame, people.
Hudson Jay – A tribute to my hometown, NYC, and my deceased older brother, Jason, who we called Jay.
Daphne Rose – I thought it was just a really pretty name
Faye Elise – Named after Josh’s grandmother

Who is your favourite philosopher and why? What are some beliefs you’d like to share?
I don’t know why but this one was a tough question to answer. I don’t know if I have a favorite philosopher but I am a Christian. I know saying that makes people uncomfortable or annoyed but I promise you that most Christians are not crazy people, lol. I’m happy to tell you that I am a Christian and if you have questions, I would love to answer them but I’m not going to shove it down your throat because that’s not love and I’m all about love =)

What are some of your favourite vintage and/or whimsical items?
My favorite vintage and whimsical finds are English teacups, vintage and antique books, and vintage handkerchiefs. The teacups are so personal because there is always a story when finding or receiving them. I currently have really old copies of Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland that are over a hundred years old and they melt my heart. Vintage handkerchiefs are gorgeous and make me feel fancy!

  1. Happy Thanksgiving, Tara!

Joy has some cute things in her online shop :). The room looks so neat and cute! I like the usage of the handle bar with the pencil cups hanging out of it. Very creative! The wedding picture is cute~

The market story sounds funny from a 3rd person point of view XD. I like how creative kids can be. That reminded me of when I played ‘market’ by myself because no one else was old enough to understand ;~;.

It’s great to have support from those around you. I’m sure the crafting business will be a great success!~

    • Thanks, Nancy!

I agree that the way she organised her work room and with the cups on the handle bar — great idea! I have to say that her room is very lovely :3

  2. Your crafts are amazing! I’m sure I’ll continue to recommend and love what you do! ^^ Song is gorgeous and your memory is cute! Love the wedding photo btw!

    • Thanks for reading this post! I agree that the song is a great pick and her wedding photo is perfect!

  3. So nice to meet you, Joy! I am extremely jealous of your workspace! I wish mine was that cute…and that big!

  4. Hi Joy! :D I hope Philly’s treating you alright! It has its ups and downs but you know, I liked it there. I recently picked up crochet again and I’m having so much fun! Do you have any favorite patterns?

    • I think it’s good you picked up crochet :D I hope you and Joy can swap some good ideas! ^^

  5. Yay, I love Joy! She is so sweet, and I’ve bought a few of the things she’s made :D The memory she shared is so cute and funny! I also love how she collects vintage items. The teacups are so pretty :)

    • Vintage items are lovely, and her teacup collection is gorgeous! I should start my own vintage collections, too :D

  6. Happy Thanksgiving. <3

Joy is such a cool person, I think it’s great that you featured her. :D

Haha, I love the story of setting up shop as a child. That would have been a big surprise that the customers turned out to be robbers! xD

I love the future children’s name. Titus Benedict is genius. :D

  7. Thank you so much for featuring me! I am beyond honored and I am so glad everyone is so nice! I was so afraid of talking about myself because I am extremely self-conscious but I’m glad you pushed me to get through it by being so kind!

    • You’re welcome! Thank you for willing to do this and to getting out of your comfort zone! I know it’s not easy at times talking about ourselves, but when it gets done, it’s not that bad afterwards!
