Photo Potpourri

My lovely November vacation is coming to an end :( Why must vacations always go by so fast? I am not ready to return to work. I find myself wishing I had one more week off! But alas, that’s not to be the case. I really did enjoy my time off these past two weeks. I went to Sokcho last week, and then the rest of the time was spent in Seoul doing many random activities. This round of Photo Potpourri will showcase what I’ve done in Seoul. Enjoy the photos!

Gel Manicure

My vacation started off with a spa night! I went and had an acne facial and a gel manicure. Love the silver glittery colour, but I took it off a week later because my nail grew out, and the gap between the manicure and my nail was irritating me. The day I had my gel mani removed, I met up with Chibi Toaster, and we had a delicious lunch at Cali Kitchen, and we went and did our manicures together.

Itzhak Perlman Recital Poster Itzhak Perlman Recital Tickets and Programme

On November 15, Chantelle and I went to see the legendary Itzhak Perlman! He and Rohan De Silva gave a fabulous recital at Seoul Arts Centre. Chantelle and I each paid 140,000 won for our ticket, which planted us on the second floor. It was a little hard to see the duo, but we could still hear their wonderful performance. They played:

1. Sonata for Violin and Piano in D Major, Op. 9, No. 3 by Jean-Marie Leclair
2. Sonatensatz in C Minor, Op. Posth., ‘F.A.E. Sonata’, Scherzo by Johannes Brahms
3. Sonata for Violin and Piano in F Major, No. 5, Op. 24, ‘Spring’ by Ludwig van Beethoven (This appeared in Nodame Cantabile!)
4. Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 2 in G Major by Maurice Ravel
5. Seven extra pieces during the encore! I only recognised two of them — “March” from The Love for Three Oranges by Sergei Prokofiev and the main theme from Schindler’s List by John Williams.

This was a wonderful opportunity! I’m so thrilled I heard and watched Itzhak Perlman’s live performance. Hearing his virtuoso performance was the grandest thing ever.

Espresso Con Panna at Berkeley Coffee Social

Monday and Tuesday of this week had me do errands and such. Monday, I went to Chansbros coffee shop and finished all my holiday cards. I mailed off all the non-US bound cards. Tuesday, I stopped by Berkeley Coffee Social to try their espresso con panna (pictured above), and I had lunch at Mesiya. I spent the rest of that day running errands. I went and got my flu shot, I mailed off the US bound cards, and I went to the PX to shop for a new jacket. After that, I chilled out at Chansbros.

Penguin at Kafe Nordic

Wednesday had me bum around the house. Thursday, I met up with my best friend’s auntie, and we went to Kafe Nordic, where I reunited with my favourite penguin there.

Friday, I went down to Pangyo area. I met up with Chantelle, and we spent our time in Hyundai Department Store. We had lunch at a Japanese restaurant. I tried cold ramen for the first time, and it was surprisingly great! We also walked around the department store. On one of the floors was a Kakao Friends shop, and they had their character statues on display. They amused me greatly. XD

Elsewhere in the department store, there was a gigantic holiday bear on display. So cute and so big!

The rest of my weekend and vacation had me bumming around the house, though I did leave it to go grocery shopping. I played and beat Amnesia: Memories, and the above screenshot made me laugh so much!

That was my vacation in a nutshell :3 I think I did a lot, and I’m only sorry I didn’t do more! I can’t wait for my next vacation!

  1. Ooooh I haven’t had a flu shot yet, I’m not looking forward to one. It sounds like the performance was beautiful – the music from Shindler’s List is stunning, and very moving. It music have been very powerful to hear that piece live.
Your glittery manicure looks lovely, such a shame it grew out so quickly. I want some sparkly nails in time for Christmas!
The espresso looks so delicious! It sounds like you had a great time!

    • Yeah, I had a wonderful time! My flu shot HURT, but luckily I didn’t get sick from it, so that’s a plus! :D

  2. I am glad that you have enjoyed your time off and hope it won’t be too hectic when you return to work.

That’s so great you got to see the performance, it would have been a wonderful experience!

OMG, that store looks so amazing. So many cute adorable things I think I would die haha. I wish there was more shops like that in Australia. NEED! That beat is huge and awesome and so cute! :’)

    • That store is definitely something you’d like! :D If I could send you that store to Australia, I would!

Work was a bit hectic today, but that was to be expected after being gone for two weeks! XD

  3. Your vacation seems so full of fun and jam packed with things! I love the asian culture… so full of cute stuff!! It would have been so nice to attend and see recitals and performances. It draws out great appreciation for the art. I hope you’ll be refreshed upon coming back to work. I always find a vacation is needed after the vacation lol

    • I love seeing recitals and performances, but my bank account cannot afford doing it so often! I usually do it once a year, but this year I did it twice because of Itzhak Perlman and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 :D

I didn’t need a vacation after a vacation, thankfully, because I travelled early on and spent the latter half chillaxing :D

  4. Love your blog and the photos you share! I love the cartoon displays, I wish we had that kind of stuff here. :)

  5. A spa night sounds like a great way to start a vacation, and the Itzhak Perlman performance sounds like it was amazing :) Your post reminds me that I need to start on my Christmas cards too! That’s awesome that you finished them so early.

haha, I like the designs of the characters. I’m glad you had a good vacation! I hope work won’t be too rough on you!

    • Itzhak Perlman was amazing! So glad I got to see him!

Work was a bit rough today, but nothing I couldn’t handle! In a way, I’m glad to be back :)

  6. Vacations always go too fast! That’s how I feel every weekend, too. Come Monday, I’m always ready for another break!

Spa night is the perfect way to start a vacation! My mom and I used to go get our feed done before family vacations. My feet always feel so clean and amazing after a pedicure! It was always a treat since it isn’t something I do often.

The concert sounded wonderful. There’s a lot of great local theatres around here – and especially around Christmastime. This post makes me want to listen to some beautiful music!

It looks like you had a great vacation, Tara! Hopefully another will come soon for you ;)

    • Thanks! I did have a good one! Just wished it were a bit longer :D

I hope you’ll listen to some performances at your local theatres! ^^

  7. The end of vacations are always sad ;(. Time to go back to reality? It’s pretty neat to hear that concerts are still happening and people are still going :D. I haven’t found time to discover a great local ensemble :6. You guys have Uniqlo too?? Then again, it’s a South Korean brand, right? We have one of those at the mall XD.

Is the Hyundai Department store sponsored by the car brand? Have fun going back to work ;)

    • Yep, we have Uniqlo XD

Uhm. Not sure if the two are Hyundais are connected. I skimmed a Wikipedia entry, but it says it’s not legally connected despite having the same name.
