The Making of the Ugly Mandus

This post is old, so what you see here may not reflect my current opinion and mindset, certain information may be outdated, and links may be broken.

Before I start on the main point of this entry, I went to Tokyo and came back fine! Tokyo was a blast! I’ll be working on my photos and my travel info for Prismatic over the next few weeks (or months). I’ll announce it when it’s done!

When I came back, my mum told me that she wanted to make mandus, and I had to help her. I helped her make the mandus. My mum did it fast and made about two trays of them. Me? It took me about forty minutes to make one tray ~_~;; See the below picture.

Mandu (Korean dumplings)

I started off making the crescent moon shaped ones . . . but then I decided to make the rest into those ball-shaped ones. My mum says they are pretty. I still think it’s ugly. I don’t know how those professionals do it!

But mmmm. Even though I’m slow, I don’t mind making mandus! I just couldn’t be arsed to do it all the time!

  1. I don’t know why you think they’re ugly! Now I really, really want dumplings!

    • They look uglier than the ones I can buy at the store. XD;;; Sorry. It’s just the perfectionist in me XD;;;

  2. Seriously, I don’t think I can ever recreate most of the food my mom makes…

    Can’t wait to see your pictures! Hahaha, I just realized I never really finish posting up my travel pictures. I’m terrible. I get like travel-coma when I come back home.

    • Travel-coma! Yeah, I think that’s what I’ve been in the last couple of days. Oiiiii. XD;;; That makes me so unproductive!

  3. I love mandus, so tasty XD I think they look good! I used to make Chinese dumplings with my mom, and I wasn’t as fast as her either. Takes a lot of practice I suppose XD;;

  4. =D they do look mighty tasty even if you think they’re ugly! It’s the taste that counts right??

    Moms always cook so fast and make everything so perfect – i can’t make a cake to save my life and my mom can make one from scratch in a few minutes!!

    • That’s true~ It’s the taste that do count!

      Mums are amazing in the kitchen. Though I know I’m not so amazing in the kitchen, LOL.

  5. Talking about mandus makes me want some now… I haven’t had any homemade mandu in such a long time. My mom usually makes everything and I help her put it all together. We can usually get everything folded within 20-30 minutes.

    • My mum probably can do everything that fast. Me? It takes me forever, since I’m so anal, and want things to come out as perfect as it can! :D

  6. Ooohh, those look good! What are they? I want to go try some!

  7. You went to Tokyo!!! Lucky!!! Looking forward to seeing the photos :)

    Mum promised she’ll show me how to cook this Summer. However mum is a perfectionist so being in the same kitchen with her can be rather annoying ^^;;

    • Yes, Tokyo was awesome!

      And I don’t exactly enjoy working with my mum in the kitchen. We both work differently, so she’s trying to tell me to do it her way, and I rebel against her suggestion and insist on doing it my way. It can be quite an adventure, that’s for sure XD;;;
