The Notation Bug

This post is old, so what you see here may not reflect my current opinion and mindset, certain information may be outdated, and links may be broken.

I mentioned months ago that I have way too many hobbies and interests. I really do. I went from writing a bunch of fanfics to suddenly arranging and notating piano music again. In September, I had quickly arranged “Viva La Vida“. Well, on Friday night, I had been listening to Utada Hikaru’s cover of “Boulevard of Broken Dreams”, and in her version, I had heard the chord progression easier than Green Day’s version. With that in mind, the next day, I quickly figured out the progression, made sure it was correct from a source on the Internet, and arranged the song from there — which took about half an hour. Then I notated it and finished it in a couple of hours.

I finished it, and the midi file, the PDF, and the MUS files are all here. It’s easy, it’s simple, and it’s short since I don’t see the point of repeating the entire song. Feel free to nab the original MUS file and change it to your liking. Or just don’t bother XD.

With that said, I need to notate the following arrangements one of these days:

  • The Most Precious Gift
  • Edelweiss
  • Suikoden IV/Tactics’ Rune of Punishment
  • Miryang Arirang
  • Sarangeuro

I need more time during the day or I need to stop getting the urge to arrange songs! Augh!

  1. I wish I had an ear for that. I played in band and orchestra throughout high school, and was so good at reading music, but improvising and writing it is my downfall. But yours sounds good! :D

  2. wow.. i can say that you’re a good artist/musician ha. :)

  3. wow…bravo…i wish i can play piano…and drumset cos it looks cool :P

  4. Same with the other comments, I wish I could pick things up like that.. that is a really cool talent!

  5. WOW! You are so talented Tara! Do you have perfect pitch?!
I did Music theory and did Music Solo Performance in my last year of highschool, oh my gosh I could not stand the exercises where they would play the songd and we would have to notate it :/ I was horrible.. despite the fact that half of my life was with my violin by my side.

Man it’s been a while since I played the piano and violin; maybe I should reconsider playing them again since it’s holidays and I want to have a go playing the songs you have notated. :)

It’s good to have many hobbies! Keep them up! :D

  6. Saw your last blog entry – great christmas card list. At least you’ll get a bunch of cute cards back from all over the world aswell :)!

I love edelweiss! Such a beautiful song.

  7. Wow… I am so impressed. I can’t do anything like that. I have a hard enough time hearing a song on the radio and figuring out what it is! That’s almost beyond a hobby, it’s more like an incredible talent. :) Hope you keep up with that and thanks for sharing!

  8. Tara! I got your Christmas card. Thanks a lot! xD I will be sending out yours soon. (finally found the time to buy them 0_0)

  9. I am impressed! It was really lovely! I can never figure out music and rearrange it. My current roommate can listen to a song and figure it out on the keyboard, but I’m not that gifted. I have the less amazing ability to be able to read and play music… Not really impressive at all.

Anyway, it’s very lovely! I’ll have to look up Utada Hikaru’s version as well.
