Term 1 SY 06-07 Registration

This post is old, so what you see here may not reflect my current opinion and mindset, certain information may be outdated, and links may be broken.

I signed up for my two classes for this term. They are:

* COMM 394 – Business Writing – Tues/Thurs 1800~2100
* ENGL 457 – The Modern Novel – Sat 0900~1700

I am so looking forward to reading Faulkner, Hemingway, Heller, Kesey, and Conrad. Yes, I am joyfully excited. As much as one can get excited as getting a flu shot.

The following novels will theoretically be covered in Engl 457:

* Joseph Conrad: Heart of Darkness
* Joseph Heller: Catch-22
* William Faulkner: As I Lay Dying
* Ernest Hemingway: Sun Also Rises & and an anthology of his short stories
* Ken Kesey: One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest

Six books in 7 weeks. Oh joy. And I’m stuck with doing Conrad’s HoD again! Goodie. *sighs*

Another $1032 down the drain… and sadly, that’s not including the books. My COMM 394 book alone cost $118. Must find a used book for CHEAP. And the ENGL 457 books all together cost $69.

I definitely feel like the epitome of a poor college student.

  1. At least you have prior knowledge of the inner workings of J.C., and the great frame narrative within HoD ;D I’m taking ENGL238 which…means nothing to you of course… it’s 20th C Drama in Context. I have to borrow a whole lot of books (I’ve decided it’s not worth buying them, although your list sounds rather interesting and it’ll probably look good in your bookshelf!) and we watch films too. Today was ‘A Dolls House’, which I’d heard much about but had never seen or read.

    I don’t know why I’m telling you this. Do your semesters start at the same time as ours? (March-July, then Aug-Nov?)

    I must be one of the few people who actually liked HoD. As I Lay Dying was a tricky book to read, but I ended up liking it, too. I dunno. Anyway, yeah, six books in seven weeks sounds kinda rushed ;_; Good luck with your classes!

    I’ve already tallied up the bill for my textbooks, and I almost had a heart attack from the final number. Being a poor college student is definitely not fun :(

    Wow Business Writing? Never heard of such a subject yet it sounds very useful!

    Ouch paying all that money mustn’t have been pleasant.

    I’d take Catch-22 but the others… you must be crazy. Let’s hear it for being poor, and trying to be educated, and feeling like the poor and education will go on forever.

  5. i miss school but not really. harhar. :p
